Every day, my students come to school with smiles on their faces and light in their eyes. It brings unending joy to my heart to watch that light turn into the fire of their eagerness to learn. The fabulous second-graders in my classwork hard every day to accomplish our class motto, "Do hard things!"
I teach in a small, urban, public elementary school where 78% of the students come from low-income families.
We operate as a peaceful community where each child is shown that they are cared for and that their teachers believe in them. My students are full of love for others and excitement for learning. They are hard workers, talkers, problem solvers, helpers, readers, researchers, and lovers...their possibilities are endless!
My Project
In my district, science and social studies topics are meant to be embedded in the reading/English curriculum. As a teacher so much time is spent outside of school planning ways to do that. Sometimes it is hard to find resources that are age-appropriate, align with standards, and are interesting for second graders. However, TIME For Kids makes that part easy!
TIME For Kids is the perfect science and social studies resource for my students!
When I can engage my students in this authentic journalism they will be growing their informational reading skills while also beginning to understand the complex world that they live in. Together we will read this trusted news magazine every week and learn about social justice, history, and current events (just to start). I do not want social studies and science topics to be overlooked in my classroom, please help my students grow to be informed citizens!
