My second graders are a group of eager and active learners with many different needs and learning styles. As I move into a workshop model of teaching, in order to individualize student instruction and reach all learners, our classroom needs more resources to maximize our success in all areas of our learning.
My students come into my classroom each morning with a love and enthusiasm for learning.
They are eager to know what our day holds and they are excited to take on new challenges that make them think.
My Project
As we move to a workshop model of learning, we are able to better adapt each student’s goals to their individual needs. Moving forward with this teaching model, we need supportive materials that our students can get their hands on and manipulate on a day to day basis within our workshop stations. These manipulatives will allow students to create deeper understandings of the topics of literacy and math, in a fun and engaging way.
We have hand selected supplies that we know will support children in their learning, at all levels.
You will notice that some of our supplies support math learning. These things will help students at all levels with their understanding of number systems and will help them become more fluent in addition and subtraction, time, and money. It also allows for opportunity to extend students' learning by challenging them further with concepts that they will see in third grade. All of these manipulatives allow students to learn through hands-on math.
You will also notice that there are supplies to support our learning in literacy as well. The supplies we have selected will help students create deeper understandings of the texts they are reading. It allows them to check their comprehension in an engaging way, whether in a group, with a partner, or by themselves. It also helps reinforce reading concepts and rules that students need to know to be successful readers. These supplies will reach students at all reading levels and help to support their understanding and learning in preparation for third grade.
