My students come from two, small, rural communities in South Mobile County. The majority of the families work in the seafood and agricultural industries. Many of my students learn better by reinforcing the skills using a variety of mediums. My students enjoy incorporating music while learning poetry or discovering about William Shakespeare's life by taking a virtual field trip of England.
In order for my students to enjoy the full effect of different learning mediums, they need a decent speakers for the classroom.
With a great sound system, the students can experience music, videos, virtual field trips and biographies in such a way that makes learning more enjoyable.
My Project
Can you imagine straining to hear the words from a video on William Shakespeare? Or, trying to make a connection between poetry and music only to hear the words muffled? That is what has been life for my students. Every single time we try to use multimedia resources, my students groan over how terrible the quality is of our current speaker system.
My students will be highly engaged in the learning process when using music, videos and documentaries when they can actually hear and understand what is being presented.
Ted Talks have become a great learning tool in the classroom, but only if the students can understand the presenter.
With the new speaker system, my students will find value in a range of learning experiences. We can watch Macbeth and actually hear the stressed syllables when the actors are speaking. We can listen to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I have a Dream Speech" and actually hear the passion in his voice as he exclaims, "I have a dream!" New computer speakers will make a huge difference in my classroom.
