Our school's students are thoughtful, creative, curious, and hungry for learning. Our school serves kindergarten-8th grade students who come from extremely diverse social and economic backgrounds. They travel from 6 counties to reach school every day. We are a free public charter school, Title I, and 51% of our students qualify for the free/reduced lunch program.
Imagine~Innovate~Inquire~Inspire is our school's motto.
As a fifth grade teacher, I help my students practice all four of these skills throughout our school day in the areas of reading, math, science, and social studies. This year, we are in need of more novels so that our students can dive deep into literature. Your donations help our students to achieve this mission!
My Project
Reading is one of the most powerful tools students need to succeed in middle and high school and college, and to be savvy citizens, consumers, and contributors of society. The best thing we can do for all of our students, especially those who are academically behind, is provide them with the time and resources to read and discuss great literature. With your donation, our fifth graders will be able to engage in three powerful novel studies this year that all explore the themes of kindness, discrimination, and respect.
Every student should have the opportunity to read relevant and interesting books, write critical responses, and engage in high level discussions that prepares them for success later on in school and in the real world.
By getting a book in every student's hands, our fifth grade team will be able to increase the rigor of our classroom by having our students closely read and analyze text, discuss it with their peers in literature circles, and write critically about the themes they are discovering and how these themes apply to their own lives.
