This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a reading specialist, I work with struggling readers in first and second grade. Reading does not come easily to many of my students. These students will become good readers, but they need a little help.
We have both academic challenges and significant socioeconomic challenges.
At my school, 100% of our students qualify to receive free or reduced-price lunch which means it is categorized as "highest poverty." All students deserve the same educational opportunities, but my students are at a disadvantage.
I try to give my students quality instruction, quality materials, and a quality learning environment.
My Project
Our first grade avid readers are eager to use their new reading abilities. However, they need more novel sets. They are reading everything we give them and hungry for more! We want to keep up the enthusiasm as well as the reading practice.
Please donate toward some classic beginning reader class novel sets, specifically Stone Soup, Morris Goes to School, and Mr. Putter and Tabby.
Our students will love these books!
We want to keep our students excited about reading good books. We also want them to practice their reading skills on increasingly more challenging books.
