Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a Title l district where most of the students come from low-income households and they are very limited to the resources in the classroom.
Every day when my students arrive in the classroom, they are full of energy and anxious to see what is in store for them.
I teach 5th grade dual language and many of my students read at different grade levels. I would love to provide a welcoming classroom for them where they feel loved and welcomed.
My Project
I teach amazing bilingual students who come to the classroom with the biggest smiles on their faces. I believe that all of the students across the nation should have the same resources; unfortunately, in our district, we count with very limited resources.
I have picked novels for my students at their reading level to spark the reading in my students with titles that they are interested in.
These books will be used during our English language arts and also during small group. I want my bilingual students to be able to read novels just as the rest of the students do, so that they can learn to love reading. The novels Charlotte's Web, There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom, Blubber, and Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing will be used as part of the reading talks that we will have in the classroom. Each student will have a book so that they can read it at home and discuss it the next day in the classroom.
