This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach English to 9th and 10th graders at a trade school. Many of my students have IEPs or are reluctant readers. I find that the best way to teach longer-form text–especially novels–is to provide the text and audio. That said, I find that many students will not listen to the audio or read text if I simply provide the resources; therefore, I have developed a system in which I display the text at the front of the room and play the audio for the whole class. We then stop every few minutes to discuss important vocabulary or concepts.

Last year, I was using my own devices—my phone and my Bluetooth speaker from home.

These items—the iPad, the speaker, the case and stand, and the markers—are for this project: I need an iPad and speaker to play the audio while I use my Smartboard for displaying text. The markers are for writing key vocabulary words or concepts on the whiteboard.
