I teach English/Language Arts to a diverse group of 80 seventh graders, including students who are gifted, require special education services, or just need a little extra love each day, for whatever reason. I've worked hard to build a classroom library that meets the needs of all of them, and this year, I couldn't be more proud of my students. They LOVE to read! They are hard-working, kind, incredible kids, and it's amazing to watch them dive into books and topics.
This year, my students not only love to read, but they love to read books together. We do small-group book clubs and independent reading, but they really love when we read books as an entire class together. We've had some really powerful discussions that came from those experiences. I want to be able to give more of these to my students. So I want to get them two more novel-sets to read together. The first one is a graphic novel which takes poetry and images and uses them together in a really powerful way. This will be perfect for our poetry unit coming up! The other is a novel that will bring their history content of the Cold War to life, as we explore what it would be like to survive in a fallout shelter! I can't wait to create exciting experiences using these books!
