Help me give my students quality, challenging literature to engage their thinking. These novels are part of the Duke TIP Book Club for Gifted Students. Rain Reign is a novel about a girl with high functioning autism.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are identified AIG (Gifted) and I also serve high achieving students. I work with students at three different schools within our district. My students are creative and divergent thinkers who thrive in a challenging learning environment with their peers.
There are as many different personalities as there are students!
Each one has a unique perspective on the world around them and they are more than eager to share their views with others! Their energy and enthusiasm is contagious and they keep me on my toes! Every day with my students bring new challenges and successes.
My Project
The novel sets in this project will provide me with easier access to quality literature to use with my gifted students. Students will be able to read engaging modern fiction novels, as well as a non fiction novel. The characters in the novels are real and students can identify with their struggles and challenges.
I plan to use these novels along with support materials and resources from the Duke TIP Book Club to design instructional opportunities to read and analyze more advanced literature and to relate the experiences of characters to the lives of my students.
Making learning meaningful for students is crucial to their success.
