"Educate and inform the whole mass of the people . . . They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty." was said by Thomas Jefferson. This quote is a reminder of the importance of educating every child.
My students are creative, inquisitive, and want to know more about the society and culture in which they live.
They love to engage in the topics we cover and stretch their understanding of multiple perspectives.
My goal is to take learning beyond the classroom walls and for each of my students to experience learning in unique, authentic environments.
My Project
Developing critical thinking skills is necessary in the 21st century. Students will use the engineering design model to solve problems of the characters in the book.
Using children's books, such as, "Duck For President" and "House Mouse, Senate Mouse" will challenge student readers to solve problems for the characters while learning about election process, Congress, the presidency and the Supreme Court.
The project will use the 4C's of 21st Century skills: collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. Students will be challenged to identify a problem in the book, research the problem, and develop a solution. They will plan, create and test their solutions and then review how to improve in the future.
