Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager and driven to come to school and succeed. They participate in an International Baccalaureate program that prepares them for college and career success.
The majority of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch making our school a Title I school.
Many of our student's parents work more than one job to make ends meet. Many of our students assist at home by working after school. Despite this, my students put forth maximum effort at school and always shine!
We need to prepare our students for college and career readiness. We need to motivate them and provide them with experiences that they typically would not have access to.
My Project
My IB students are going to be taking rigorous IB exams in order to earn their IB diploma. I would like to provide them a different opportunity as they close out their senior year. My goal for the 4th quarter is for students to be exposed to literature that will promote discussion, and critical thinking, and allow them to read a different genre. This will develop them as readers and equip them with tools for their upcoming year in college.
The goal of reading the novel Valentine is for IB seniors chat with the author via Skype.
Students will discuss the novel with the author and discuss themes and characters. Students will explore themes and topics that are very real in today's society.
