Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have been teaching for 17 years, and the students at this school are amazing. They want to be successful, they want to be educated, and they regularly show kindness to themselves and others. Our dedicated students are involved in sports, clubs, and programs that often require lots of time outside of class. We have award winning Band, Choir, Cheer, and Leadership programs.

Our wonderful students do not have access to our library due to budget cuts and many do not have books or reading material in their homes.

I am hoping to include more young adult novels and reading material in my classroom library, especially titles that speak to our students of color, LGBTQIA+ students, as well as students who struggle with identity. These book titles are ones that students have asked to read on our reading Wednesday periods.

Although we have free lunch some students can not get to the cafeteria during lunch or need food before or after school. The snacks I am hoping to get will help students feel nourished throughout the day. Thank you for helping to nourish my students minds and bellies!
