This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I have students who are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn,” is a quote that we refer to in our classroom.

I want my students to have the ability to use technology in my class to promote perseverance, 21st-century skills, and create real-world​ connections.

My Project

These materials will help my students continue their love for reading. Our school uses an anthology to teach reading skills and strategies, but sometimes we add in a mentor text. The students enjoy being read to, but sometimes the stories in our anthology are a little dry and unrelatable. Having the Jennifer Serravallo Go-To Books will help the students enjoy reading mentor text and also share these stories with younger siblings to pass down the love for reading.

Upper elementary students are still kids, so let's not forget about that when it comes to reading aloud.

My students love to get a mat, find a spot, and enjoy a good book.
