Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at my school are eager to learn and prepare for their future successes. They are full of joy and energy despite the many challenges life has presented for many of them. Distance Learning is just another challenge they are faced with and will have to learn to navigate in a way that works for them. These students are strong-willed and know how to adapt and flourish. This community has a tradition of standing strong together to help one another in times of struggle. These young folks are determined and driven, all they seek are the right supports to help them meet their goals.
My Project
As we as educators plan for the start of the upcoming school year to be conducted as distance learning I saw the need for basic educational materials for each student to have at home that will make our virtual environment feel more like the classroom. Not every student can speak all at once but every student can participate. I plan to get a dry erase board and markers to every student so that everyone on the call can record their answers, thoughts, or feelings. And I'd like to remind them that nothing is permanent, your first answer nor this situation we are in.
Having a noise-canceling headset and a small dry erase board will make our online meetings run more smoothly.
I feel that these tools will encourage equity in participation on our new virtual platform.
