Nothing is Out of Reach With Technology to Help Teach!
My students need tablets to use everyday during centers. Centers is a time where my students work together to problem solve and critically think to complete their assignments and go on virtual field trips!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our elementary is a small very low income public school where 100% of the students qualify and receive free breakfast and lunch. My students do not have lots of background knowledge in the area of science and math but are eager to learn and want to be successful. My students are 3rd graders who think success means they need to be a movie star, rapper or an athlete. My students love doing STEM projects and I love being able to give them the opportunity to think outside the box and explore their other talents; talents that they never could have imagined they had. The world is changing and Science and Math are the keys to our future. Our goal is to prepare our students for those Science and Math jobs that haven't been created yet, to show our students that being an entertainer or an athlete are choice they could make but they aren't the only ones.
My Project
These materials will make learning more exciting in many different ways. The students will not only be able to learn a about certain places but they will be able to see them. Using these tablets will allow us to go in virtual field trips during our center time. The students will be able to view places that they may otherwise never get to experience. They will also provide students the ability to do the same tasks that they were previously doing with paper and pencil on an actual tablet, which makes everything more fun! As we know when learning is fun it is retained.
