My students make me smile. They find joy in the small things, and are eager to share that joy with others. This is my first year teaching sixth grade, and these children have shown me how wonderful it can be. They are a very diverse group with varied abilities. I have many book-lovers, quite a few avid writers, and some very reluctant readers, but they have all come together to form classroom communities dedicated to learning and helping each other.
My students love to participate in class and try out new things.
They get excited when working with partners or in small groups, and they love to learn about topics that are new to them. One of their favorite stories this year has been Number the Stars. They are very curious, and they come up with some amazing questions. Many of them are determined to make a positive impact on the world when they get older. I look forward to watching them grow this year, and I know they will do fabulous things!
It can be hard to get lost in a good book when you're sitting in a hard desk at school. Some of my students have difficulty sitting in a desk at all. They would love a comfortable, inviting reading area within our classroom. The saucer chairs and bean bag chair could be used by students during our regular lessons with the help of the lap desks, and they can also be utilized for independent reading. The more students read, the better they get at it. I want to encourage them to read every chance they get! The fluffy rug would also be a terrific addition to our classroom. I have many students who like to sit on the floor if they had the option.
My students would feel more relaxed, and they would be much more likely to pick up a good book in an inviting reading area.
They are eager to read popular series like the Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Divergent, and the Maze Runner. Many of my students do not have a lot of books at home, and they don't go visit our local library so I want to bring these fantastic books to them. All children deserve the opportunity to visit faraway lands through the magic of books!
