Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever been unable to afford simple classroom supplies like a notebook? Please help my students have one less financial burden to worry about!
I work in a Title I high school where over 80% of the students are on free and reduced-price lunch.
My students come from broken homes, and they go home each day to an unstable environment where they may not have electricity, they do not eat dinner, or they have to watch their siblings every night. They may have children of their own. Some are being raised by single-parents, aunts, uncles, or guardians. Through all this, my students work hard. But, they do not have the luxury of being able to afford all their basic classroom materials. I lend out countless pens, pencils, and paper every day! School should be a safe, inclusive and stable environment! I want my students to have one less thing to worry about.
My Project
My students need basic classroom supplies like folders, glue, markers, pencils, card stock, and more to facilitate their learning. Being able to take their own notes is a skill my students lack. Help me teach my students how to take good quality notes in their classes. Notes help students to be creative, independent thinkers and writers. These notebooks help enhance learning by guiding students to organize their notes while expressing their own ideas and processing the information presented throughout the lesson. Students are encouraged to interact with their notes, create rigorous questions and use their notes to help stimulate a deeper understand and retention of their lessons in class. On top of this, I like to create a classroom environment that fosters student learning and creates a feeling of comfort. This interactive way of learning inspires in students a sense of ownership in their education. I teach in a high poverty school where every cent is meaningful. Every investment truly carries a seismic impact. Each notebook will help students who will be successful in college.
