Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students often describe our school as their second family. Our school is committed to preparing students for college and career by providing a continuous ECE - 8th grade program that focuses on strong culture, high expectations, diverse communities, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving. We are an innovation school serving over 900 students who are becoming next the generation of leaders in the Montbello community and beyond. Grounded in extensive research, my school has already demonstrated five years of successful instructional improvement during turnaround through high fidelity implementation of personalized learning, thematic units, flexible grouping and inquiry-based learning. Our teachers continue to create their own rigorous, research based curricula strategically designed to increase achievement for all students, incorporating authentic learning experiences that represent the cultural uniqueness of the kids and families of our school community.
My Project
Due to COVID-19, all of Denver Public Schools will be moving to remote online learning beginning April 7th. While the district is attempting to provide a Chromebook computer to every student, we know many of our students don't have basic school supplies.
This project will provide pencils and notebooks directly to our students.
Students will be able to use these supplies not only for academics, but also to journal about their experiences to support their emotional well being.
Our goal is to provide at least one notebook and pencil to every student in our school.
