Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I still teach 8th-grade mild/moderate special education. My students are all unique in their own way. It's never a dull moment with them. They are so street smart and can tell me almost everything about comic books to what happened on the last episode of The Walking Dead.
I have 13 students with learning disabilities and one student with Autism.
My Autistic student continually brings the laughter and joy in my classroom. He is very intelligent and has his own Youtube channel. My students with learning disabilities are working hard to achieve their main goal this year, to graduate from the 8th grade.
I have two students who love to draw. It's hard to ever get them to focus because all they want to do is draw. I know they will be famous artists one day. One thing all my students have in common is they love their phones!
My Project
Although I have a small group, my students require me to constantly be on my feet, checking for understanding and simply making sure they are on task. With the use of this Chromebook and USB dongle, I will be able to transfer the lesson I am teaching from my Chromebook onto the board (through the projector). With these devices, I become more accessible to my students.
My students respond better to technology compared to old-fashioned note-taking.
With the touchscreen features, I will be able to take notes, write down information, highlight, circle, cross out, etc. information being taught, all while I am walking around as the lesson is being displayed.
My students are visual learners and respond best to technology. I know I will keep their focus through the use of colors and images I can automatically display from my chromebook.
