Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a fun-loving group of active freshmen. They are energetic, funny, creative, and hard-working. Even when they struggle to understand a topic or new content, they are willing to work through the process to grow.
These students have tenacity and grit.
No matter the challenge, they rise to meet - and BEAT - it. I have seen them struggle through math problems, and increase their scores by more than the target. I have watched them blossom within their willingness to read aloud and share their thoughts on unknown words.
Every day, I am excited to spend time with these amazing young people. Each new topic brings a new mountain to climb - and they're ready for the adventure.
My Project
Ninth grade students are creative to a high degree, but are often not encouraged to build those skills. In addition to supporting reading skills in my students, the goal of this year is to encourage their literacy by empowering them to write fully formed stories.
These supplies will foster a classroom culture of creativity.
The colored pencils and markers will support the creation of story boards and holistic character development. The posters give the students a chance to display their brainstorming, designs, and story excerpts in a class-wide presentation. The notebooks are for the novels - from preliminary brainstorming to rough drafts to final edits.
Together, these supplies will unlock the creative tendencies of my students and allow them to explore their most expressive sides.
