I believe it is my duty to provide a learning environment that gets my students excited about reading and technology.
Our classrooms are full of students from a variety of backgrounds, but we all come together as one big family at school.
My students live in a small rural community of about five thousand people. Approximately forty-one and a half percent of students at our school are living at, or below, the poverty level. Most of their families consist of blue-collar workers living paycheck to paycheck.
My Project
Every year, there are thousands of books published for children. And every year, there are a few dozen that are recognized as the best of the best, or 'notable books' by organizations such as the New York Times, the American Library Association and the ALA subdivision, the Association for Library Service to Children. It is important to me to consistently give my students access to some of the best of the newest titles available.
This project consists of 22 of the most notable children's books published in 2018.
The selection of books that I have chosen for this project includes picture books and chapter books, both fiction and non-fiction. There is a little something for every grade, kindergarten through 5th grade.
