Approximately 2000 students attend our school every year -- it is a large, diverse, building, and I love being a part of it. Because we are a low income school, we rarely have a lot of extra funds to put towards materials for our classrooms.
Despite the wide range of challenges that these students face on a daily basis, my classroom is full of some of the most creative, passionate, hard-working, and ambitious people I have ever met.
They are the reason I love what I do, and I am constantly inspired by what my students achieve.
My classroom is full of students with diverse interests, skills, and goals for the future. I want to offer meaningful learning opportunities to all of the unique learners that I am entrusted with each day.
My Project
Providing books teen readers will be enthusiastic about can be a challenge. But having fresh new books, instead of all of the same old choices, can make an incredible impact. I want to build my book study library so that students have a wider variety of literature circle and whole class novels to choose from. The three books included in this project cover a wide range of interests and reading levels so there is a selection for every reading preference and need. More choices will also enable me to invite students to share their input on what we read in class.
Involving my students in picking what we read in class gives them a chance to take ownership of their learning.
This ownership translates to more engaged students and a greater depth of learning, but I can't do it without your help.
