This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am a fifth grade teacher of 30 students and I work in the inner city of Chicago in a self contained classroom. I happily juggle teaching all subjects including science. I love my job, but it is not easy. My classroom lacks exciting science materials.
I want my students to experience more than just their neighborhood. I want them to see all possibilities. I want them to experience science. I\'m interested in bringing FOSS to my classroom. I\'ve seen it work for other kids and I\'d like my kids to love it too.
This year we will study Time and Motion, Levers and Pulleys, Solar Energy, and Microorganisms/Environments. FOSS has kits to address each of these topics.
FOSS is the Full Option Science System and it is used in my school districts at all grade levels. It fully integrates a hand on approach to science and learning. Additionally, the kit materials will last for years to come.
With your help, by the end of the year, each student will have a new grasp on science. They will go on to enjoy and look forward to learning. Additionally, they may begin to develop their own desire to pursue futures in a scientific world.
