My Students
Remember "back in the day" when college coursework required textbooks and "blue books" for exams? Well, those days are long gone. In today's world, it is required that the student (me) have their own laptop, capable of creating Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations.
I have been an inner city public school teacher for twenty-five years.
I have taught third through sixth grade, as well as been a resource teacher for grades Pre-K through eighth. I love teaching and regularly seek out professional development classes, workshops and trainings in order to better serve my students and improve/increase my personal knowledge. Recently I have decided to return to college to earn a Master's Degree in Leadership with a specialization in STEM.
My Project
As I have enrolled in coursework, it has become very clear that my 2009 desktop at home is far more outdated than I had thought. It is too slow and no longer has enough memory in order to store class work or share work with teammates and peers. The MacBook Pro, Office Mac and protection plan that I am requesting will significantly impact my ability to meet with greater success in my college endeavors, but also be able to be utilized at school with my students. As a laptop, I can actually carry it back and forth from school to home, which I currently do not have the capability to do.
I would be able to enter my online grades, send emails to parents, and access school and district level resources that I currently cannot do.
With the increased capacities of the laptop, I would also be able to make use of our school's electronic whiteboard software, thus being able to make flipcharts to use with my classes, allowing them to engage in technology skills as well. This MacBook Pro would not only improve my professional life, but the lives of the children that I touch.
