Howdy! I am a 5th grade teacher and teach practically all the main subjects in my class. I work in a Title I school in New York meaning that most of the students come from low-income families. Despite their financial income, I try my best to give the education my students deserve with the supplies I have.
My classroom needs a printer more importantly a copier machine please. We need this because as I am teaching a lesson I may realize that my students may not be understanding the day's lesson and therefore a new set of work for them is needed. It could be even the opposite, they may understand the material, and they need copies of more challenging work. Time is precious. By having this printer/copier machine, students will have the necessary material they need to learn for that day instead of waiting. No reviewing of the material is necessary if the students have the copies on that day. Also due to the economy and budget cuts, the school does not have enough money to buy class sets of books or if they do, they are not allowed to write in them.
By having a printer/copier in our classroom, you will be helping us to save valuable class time! Students will be able to understand the lesson better or even challenged because the resources that are needed to be copied are available to them at that moment. Almost everything can be done in a New York Minute. There will be more momentum in the learning classroom. Besides saving valuable class, you will be teaching my students some valuable life lessons as well. Students need to be responsible for the papers and books that are given to them because things in life as we know it are not free. If my students lose an assignment or a book, they can make copies at a price (not money). In my classroom, I give out tickets almost everyday for good behavior and completing certain assignments on time. My students use these tickets like money because they use them to purchase items from the treasure box or basic school supplies (for example: 4 tickets for a brand new pencil).
With the copier, my students will pay one ticket for every copy. This will teach the students to be more responsible for the items that are given to them, and to realize that if they lose or misplace something, they must replace it out of their own pockets.
