Our school is a low-wealth school full of enthusiastic learners. We are located near the beach and near a very large military base. In the past two years, our school has experienced a rapid growth in the number of students we serve. We have students who are from small fishing families to military families. It is necessary to serve all students as individuals and provide opportunities for all students to inquire, imagine, and create using tools for the future.
When the first bell rings this year, staff and students will be in a brand new state of the art building.
The building is beautiful but what goes on inside will be more important. We must deliver state of the art instruction. This transition is so exciting for the community.
I am asking for items that will encourage kids to write code. The BB8 immediately attracts students. It is a great way to introduce them to coding. Ozobots are miniature robots that follow a code that is drawn using color combinations and black dots. Students love to discover the ways to combine the colors to make the Ozobots follow the coding directions.
My Project
My students need a place to come and explore. The library is a place to inquire and seek knowledge. It needs to be a place unlike any other. The library should be a place where they can explore and create without boundaries. A place where trial and error leads to understanding.
All students in the school can use the Sphero and Ozobot to learn to code.
They will create ways to manipulate these robots. They will use critical thinking skills while exploring and learning about the world of coding in technology. These skills will help prepare them for the future while having fun.
