This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Abandonment is something my students shouldn't be use to. They were abandon by their previous school district when it shut down. They were also abandon by their previous teachers when they walked away. Now some of my students even know what it means to be abandoned from their own homes. Hurricane Harvey still has damaging effects on my students, leaving them without a home of their own. Even with these overwhelming obstacles, they still come to school with a hunger to learn.

My Project

The majority of my students come from a low income environment. They lack some of the basic needs that most students have to stay warm and maintain a healthy hygiene regime. Often times my students will come to school with the same clothes they had on the day before, unwashed. Other times my students come to school smelling like they left the day before. To be successful, my students must feel successful. To feel successful is to have your basic needs met. Those basic needs include cleanliness and warmth. Your donation will help my students receive clean clothes for their bodies and a hygiene supplies to maintain their cleanliness.

It definitely takes a village to raise a child.

Within our village my students need a washer and dryer to clean their clothes, weekly. They need snacks to keep them energetic during class. They need pants and shirts that are clean that they can change into when they come to class. They need deodorant, soap and shampoo to wash away the nights events away. They also need containers and jars to house all of their things within the class.
