I am a high school teacher, as well as the Dean of Students at a small, charter school on Maui. We have a student body of 240 students in grades 9-12. We have a very unique student body, as we are a "school of choice" and our families have chosen our school for their children.
We are a small charter school and as all schools, our students and faculty face many challenges as far as behavior and classroom management are concerned.
We want to provide students with a restorative justice program to help them solve problems and get along with their peers in a positive manner.
I am requesting these social emotional resource books to supplement our school's commitment to implementing nonviolent communication skills within our school community. Our teachers will each receive a book, as, together, we aim to create a healthy, positive school environment within our school, where students are working together as mediators.
These books will help us to create a successful restorative justice program within our school in order to provide a peaceful learning environment for our students.
We want to provide these books as resources for our staff, so that they have the proper tools in which to support this program.
