Nonprofit Entrepreneur, Joanna Puello Shares Her Story
Help me give my students the opportunity to bring Joanna Puello, nonprofit entrepreneur and founder of World Upside Down, on a virtual visit to our classroom!
Fine Arts are integral in building student confidence, connecting the right and left hemispheres of the brain, and creating a safe space for kids to experiment and express themselves. I am passionate about giving my theater arts students an educational experience that will make them uncomfortable and push them beyond their comfort zones. They are being developed into holistic individuals who will carry with them positive and engaging experiences on the stage and in my classroom.
My students are ready for all of the fun and all of the challenges of a top-tier performing arts program but often suffer due to a lack of resources.
Last year was our campus's first year with a true theater arts program, and the secondary theater students proved through their effort, passion, and talent that they are worthy of its continued development. They love taking risks, developing characters, working as a team, and experimenting through movement and improvisation. My students are special and creative and work to create a culture and environment of accountability and encouragement where everyone is seen, valued, and heard.
My Project
Putting on a theater production is a very daunting task. From set design to getting parents on board to volunteer, my job as a teacher never ends. I love it, but it’s super challenging. Then there are budget concerns. I never have the resources I need to produce the quality of productions I think that my students deserve. But this year, that’s going to change because I just met a teacher and instructional designer who is on a mission to change that.
I want to bring Joanna Puello, founder of World Upside Down, into my classroom for a virtual visit.
She will share her why as a nonprofit entrepreneur and tell us about the arts education video curriculum she’s creating for arts educators and classroom teachers who want to integrate the arts.
Joanna will also give us access to the four-hour video curriculum kit she designed called The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe Show Kit, which gives teachers a clear path for acting instruction and play production. Topics include warm-up routine, create a strong character through voice and body, prepare for an audition, script analysis, character development, memorization techniques, stage areas, and blocking. It also provides tips for set & prop design, lighting, costumes & makeup.
