My students need new reading materials and Time for Kids would be a great addition to our reading materials we have already in our classroom.

My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to make my classroom welcoming and a safe and exciting place to learn. I teach at a Title 1 school in North Carolina, where one hundred percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Students learn at school but what happens when they leave school to go home.
My Project
In third grade we work with fiction and nonfiction text throughout the school year. Children at the end of the year are tested with both types of text.
Many children are exposed to fiction text in earlier grades but lack the knowledge of nonfiction text.
Times for Kids would be a great addition to our classroom to help incorporate the nonfiction text that children so many times have a lack of background knowledge of or experience with. Children will be able to use these magazines to help with their reading throughout the year and their understanding of current and past history and nonfiction text.
