Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come to school every day ready to learn! While their families are supportive and involved in their learning, they are unable to support our class financially. All of my students qualify for free lunch. Our classroom is bilingual. Students are mastering academic concepts in both their home language, Spanish, and English. This makes it especially important that every moment of the day is filled not just with learning, but with a conversation! I want my students to question, observe, and discuss at work and at play.
My Project
Kindergarteners are learning how to be avid readers and avid readers read different types of book. These nonfiction text are perfect for students to read independently during Reader's Workshop.
These nonfiction books will help my students read to learn!
Nonfiction books teach students more about the world they live in. These books will also expand my students vocabulary and help support academic conversations in the classroom.
Nonfiction books will introduce students to text features (title, subtitle, bold print) which is something that students will be exposed to throughout their academic careers.
These books will also serve as Mentor text for our informational writing unit.
