My school is a daily hub of activity from teachers to students to parents. We are located in South Carolina is one of the fastest-growing communities in our state. I currently teach 21 gifted and talented 5th graders. My students this year are a bright bunch of learners eager to grow academically and socially. They constantly question the world around them and love learning.
As a district, we believe in the motto "Children First". With this motto in mind, I believe it's my responsibility to look for ways to support my students in their learning.
My students work hard and play harder. They read, write, engage, collaborate, and think critically. They are ready to accept any challenge presented, and so am I.
My students are avid readers and love to make sense of the world around them. If this year has taught us anything it's resilience and determination.
My students need more access to quality nonfiction in a variety of formats like graphic novels, chapter books and picture books.
This project will give students access to high quality nonfiction books around the variety of people, places and time periods we study in 5th grade social studies. I am always looking for ways to bring the world in and I truly believe access to books is the first step.
