This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In my classroom, students are actively engaged in collaborative groups, small group activities in reading and math, using various types of technology, and learning using whole brain. I am always interested in keeping my students engaged and finding the best way for them to enjoy being at school.
My school is a School-Wide Title I school.
The school I work at is very close to my heart because several of my family members went to this school when they were children, including my dad and my uncle. I was an intern at this school and I am absolutely in love with the family-like feeling you have with the staff and families that surround our building.
Our school is a global health and wellness that will was first implemented in 2017-2018 school year.
My Project
I would like to have a variety of nonfiction texts to teach guided reading in my classroom. Students will be learning how to interact and critically read informational texts in first grade through teacher-modeling with mentor texts, guided practice in small groups, and independent practice with books at their individual reading levels. Repetition is so important for students in internalize non-fiction reading skills like how to use a table of contents or find the definitions for bold vocabulary words in a book. While I can model how to read to find information in non-fiction books, I don't have leveled books for them to read for independent practice.
The book sets I have selected include topics that interest my students and they will look forward to reading.
