This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a school in a large city. The school is in a high poverty area and unfortunately, my kids and my school do not have access to a lot of materials to enrich their learning.
My students are hardworking and resilient.
They work hard every day to work toward bettering their education. My students deserve the best and I want to give them the best. I am a first-year teacher and I have already put so much of my own money into this classroom and my students. I want to give them everything they need to make sure they succeed in third grade.
My Project
As a second year teacher, my library is fairly small. I am slowly building it through donations and yard sales. I have students reading on levels A through Q.
Finding nonfiction books on the levels of my students are hard to find.
This project will give my students nonfictions books on their reading level, which will allow them to explore more nonfiction ideas throughout the year. Reading nonfiction books is so important for students. My students need interesting nonfiction books to spark their interest in nonfiction texts. This project will do that and help my make my library more diverse for my diverse group of students.
