Help me give my students alternative seating options to help them stay alert and more focused. These items will allow students to work; standing up, on a stool, on the floor or at their desks.
The students in my room are 6th graders who possess the upmost potential.
My students are a diverse group of learners with many strengths and challenges but a commonality is, they are children and children need to move.
Non-traditional seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand during class which will help them be more alert and focused.
The school’s students are commute to our school from an out of district area so they are often starting their days earlier than the average middle school child. As outgoing, future embassadors of our community, many have expressed interest in becoming peaditricians, politicians, artists and professional athletes. They put every effort forward to reach their goals on a daily basis.
My Project
When this project is fully funded and we receive our items, our classroom will be transformed into a more inviting space. The new furniture will allow my students the opportunity to use non-traditional seating options in the classroom instead what is currently offered.
The items in this project will change the classroom's sterile feel into one that is more engaging, as it will allow the students the ability to move around the room instead of restricted at his or her desk.
The adjustable height desk will give my students the option of completing their work standing rather than sitting. The bean bag and floor chairs will allow the students to work in comfort and also will allow us to extend our learning beyond the classroom and into the hall with the use of our new rolling easel. The students will also be able to use the stools to form small groups alleviating them of the hassle of moving their chairs and desks. Students who prefer to work at their traditional seats will also benefit from this project because they will have a finger fidget or a kick band.
With these items, students will be able to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand during class which will help them be more alert and focused.
