Non-Fiction Text for Common Core Work!
My students need 30 copies of The Other Wes Moore, a non-fiction text we are using in our class.
In order for students to be prepared for college and the "real-world" they need to have practice reading non-fiction texts. This is a shift we are trying to make in English classes
My students are intelligent and curious about the world.
They attend a diverse school and each brings his or her own unique story to the classroom. We are striving to build strong community around that diversity, and are seeking opportunities to have relevant conversations around issues of class, race, and education.
We need 30 copies of The Other Wes Moore, a non-fiction text we are using in our class. The Other Wes Moore is a great book because it is not only a compelling story, but one that opens up many opportunities for dialogue around themes such as choice, systemic change, opportunity, and the ever-popular "coming of age." It has been used as a "freshman read" in colleges as well as high schools.
Supporting this project will not only provide students with a great book (in a time when school budgets don't have much room for book purchases), but will expose them to an important story that can inspire them too!
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
