My students come from many different countries across the globe. They speak multiple languages and have unique traditions and practices that I love to learn about from them first hand. Their experiences are both incredible and harrowing, and yet we all come together in the same classroom to find comfort, education, a positive environment, and unique experiences.
What makes these students so special is that they all have something to teach each other, and they always have something to teach me.
Each year, I learn a great deal about my students and about the experiences they've had and the places they've been. In a world where new technology and traditional education is always at our fingertips, it's meaningful for me as a teacher to expose my students to special opportunities, unique trips, and a comfortable setting where learning is evident and expected, and students will remain engaged so that we can try new things and always remain successful!
My Project
This project is for a subscription to The New York Times Upfront Magazine. We have used this amazing resource for many years and it's time to resubscribe! Each student is given their own copy in order to complete various assignments.
These magazines contain current, non-fiction events happening all across the world and will help bring real world conversations into our classroom.
Students will use these magazines in English class as well as in their Civics/Foundations of Government class in order to utilize as much of the magazine as possible!
The New York Times Upfront Magazine provides leveled readings and a wide variety of topics. Students can also use these magazines during their Accountable Independent Reading (AIR) time in class.
