My students need non-fiction books for all levels. These supplies benefit my students in so many ways; it gives them a chance to read about so many different topics, for example elephants, cheetahs, owls, and bees.
My students have grown up in an inner city. They are faced with violence, crime, poverty, and hunger each day. Despite all of this, they come to school ready to expand their minds and to continue to explore. My students are hopeful and strive for their very best. They are always looking to learn new things and explore different subjects more in-depth.
My students need books about the weather and other non-fiction topics so I can bring the world to them!
I would like sets of books about many different topics to use during reading so that I can bring science systems and social studies research to my students during reading to increase awareness of such topics.
Today's generation of students lives in a technologically-inclined world. Our class does its best to incorporate up to date strategies for our precocious learners. Many of my students face hardships associated with low-socioeconomic status and traumas associated with such status. These children face things like lack of food, clothing and many of the necessities that you and I take for granted. Not having enough books should not be a concern for them.
Often times my students do not have access to resources such as non-fiction books for different levels that allows them an interactive, engaging experience.
Every day during centers and independent work time, students will engage in various reading activities. These activities will elevate their learning - meaning they're going above and beyond the daily work! They'll use these non-fiction reading skills on books for our unit of informational reading. Most importantly, they'll be able to use the books to research various topics in history and science in order to find topics that they would like to learn about. Students will have the opportunity to share their learning with others, be engaged in the interactive activities, and be proud of their academic achievements by teaching the class about their researched subject!
