I love teaching at a small elementary school in Michigan. We are a Title I School where a number of my students receive free and reduced priced lunch each day. Having 21 students with a range of abilities, special needs and personalities coming into my classroom each day, I need to be creative with my teaching, lessons and activities.
My students are the heart of my classroom!
They come to school each day eager and ready to learn and I want to be able to bring out the BEST in each of them!
Access to high quality, high interest non-fiction books will allow for my students to learn more about the world around them. They are constantly eager for new books and having a wide variety of non-fiction books is essential for growing as readers. Creating cross-curriculum Writing and Social Studies projects are wonderful benefits from having a non-fiction rich print classroom. Some examples of past projects include writing our own animal research books and creating a living wax museum of important people from history.
The history, important places, people and animals that my students experience within these books will take their learning to a whole new level!
Every day my students impress me with their growth as learners and as readers! I love to fill my library with books that will be able to allow them to explore different aspects of our world.
This project will help my students gain knowledge through texts at a variety of levels and will allow me to create exciting cross curriculum projects to capture their interest. It will also give my students the opportunity to teach their peers about the knowledge they have gained from these non-fiction texts. Thank you for considering my project!
