My students need a wide variety of non-fiction books.
I have 24 eager readers ready to learn about the world around them; however my classroom library lacks enough nonfiction books to support their curiosities.
My class has 24 unique and diverse second grade students.
I teach in a school with a program that serves 100% free breakfast and lunch due to the poverty level in the community. Many of my students face obstacles most adults will not face in their lifetimes. Despite these difficulties, my students come to school every day excited and ready to learn. I do everything I can to foster a love of reading and learning during the school day, because most of my students do not have the support at home.
My classroom library gets quite the workout. Students LOVE to go book shopping in search for the perfect books that are at their levels. My eager readers often come to me asking for books about animals, plants, and other things from their world. They love the National Geographic for Kids and Time for Kids, but my classroom library does not have enough books to support all of my readers! The books I am asking for are high interest nonfiction books that will challenge my students. Reading nonfiction books help with their comprehension, vocabulary, reading stamina, and oral language. Students will be able to check these books out throughout the school year and I hope that by introducing these books to students, they will want to read even more books!
Your donation will help me in continuing to create a positive learning and reading environment for my students in my classroom.
Having access to a variety of books in our classroom would create the opportunity for students of all different abilities and interests to find that perfect fit they can dive into at school and home
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
