Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Reading and Language Arts to 44 sweet, excited, energetic and diverse learners. All my students belong to low income families. They receive free breakfast and lunch. Some of them are still missing personal belongings due to Hurricane Harvey.
Despite obstacles, they are always eager to learn and do their best, by coming to school with a happy face.
My students are at different reading and writing levels, but they are working together to grow and keep on learning every day.
My Project
My students need nonfiction books to expand our classroom library. Having these books will certainly motivate them to read more, and therefore, they will improve their fluency and comprehension skills. These nonfiction books will be a great tool to increase their knowledge on history, science, and a definite improvement of their vocabulary. I am also requesting racks and totes to organize their books on individual levels. Having these personalized totes will allow them to read independently at school and at home.
My students come from very poor families who are struggling to make ends meet.
So, it is difficult for them to purchase books for their children.
