My students need need rich, non-fiction text, like books about matter, machines and the solar system, to support their love of reading and nurture their thirst for knowledge.
I'm moving! I'm currently completing the school year in first grade, moving up to fourth grade, a blended class of gifted students in my current school. I'm trying to be proactive and build my classroom library for these ravenous readers without going broke!
These students are gifted readers with an appetite to learn about all things that interest them.
The Common Core standards wants 50% focus on fiction and 50% on non-fiction. These students read well above grade level and need these 4-6 grade books to improve and introduce them to specific vocabulary.
My Project
Please help fill my non-fiction shelves for students to gravitate towards and learn about forces, electricity, rocks and cultures around the world. This blended/gifted class needs resources readily available for them to reference when they are in group discussions, projects and just for leisure reading.
I pride myself in having an extensive library and over the last 8 years in first grade I've built an impressive collection.
As soon as I accepted the 4th grade posistion my mind went immediately to books! Oh my gosh....I must have books....how can I beg, borrow and steal or request books and Donor's Choose popped into my mind! With your support, you will help my wallet and help me build a classroom library that students can't wait to dive into. I thank you in advance for reading my request.
