Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hi. I am writing to ask for a projector and document camera for the fourth grade classroom I am currently teaching in. At this time, my 13 students have to receive lectures and lessons using a small chart paper easel and half a white board pictured to the right. We have three computers in the room that the students have to share to take tests, practice typing, and use for any online program we might use.
The school I currently work in is an Urban, Title One, K-6 Elementary School.
We have a very diverse classroom. There a students from Puerto Rico, the Middle East, the United States and from Mexico. Most of the students live in the low-income housing development around the corner from the school. I have 5 ELL students and 8 struggling readers.
My students struggle with focus and remaining engaged. I have found in past schools I have worked in. that being able to show videos and online lessons, helps to keep children engaged and focused on lessons. My students are working hard to become better readers and math learners. I am hoping that the projector and camera will enable them to reach
My Project
If my project is fully funded, I will be able to show videos and online lessons to my classroom on a daily basis. I will be able to show students how to maneuver around websites and increase their test taking skills. I will also be able to keep my classroom management piece (Class Dojo) up front and center so students can be more aware of their behavior. I am currently in a Master's Program to teach TESOL. I have previously taken Special Education and Reading Specialist courses. In every program I have been in, the use of technology in the classroom has been highly stressed. The need for visuals and virtual learning is at the top of any list for good teaching practices.
One lesson that I have found extremely helpful in Urban setting is the use of the virtual field trip.
Due to lack of funding for buses and because of time restraints, field trips are not a big part of the curriculum. With the use of virtual field trips, my students can go anywhere in the world and then write about it.
