My Students
Our school is a public, suburban school with a diverse student population in a rapidly growing community. Our students are in grades 4-K through fifth grade.
"Let us remember: one book, one pen, one child, and one teacher can change the world." -Malala Yousafzai. I believe this is true and I hope to show my students this every time they come to the Media Center.
We believe that each child should and will have opportunities to progress academically and socially through a challenging instructional environment.
My Project
Research shows that low-income students lose more than two months in reading achievement during the summer because they don't have access to books. As an elementary student, this means they lose a whole year of reading achievement by the end of elementary school. We want to provide our students that do not have any books at home with a bag of books that they can read during the summer months to hopefully prevent this summer reading achievement loss. The materials funded through this grant (combined with other books) will provide the essential elements for summer reading, other than the students, the book, and the bags!
Reading is very important in every part of a child's life! My hope is that creating positive reading experiences will help our students continue to grow as readers now and in the future.
