My students live in what most of the world would consider poverty. They don't know this though, for the most part. They don't know that all students don't get free breakfast and lunch because of the lack of income in their homes. They do know that education is important and valued by their families, so they come everyday, eager to learn and become our future scientists and artists. They work hard daily to fulfill their dreams and their families' dreams for them.
My Project
My students are eager to learn and reach their full potential. That is difficult to accomplish though when your basic human needs aren’t met. Students are not able to learn when they are hungry. The breakfast bars, oatmeal, and fruit snacks will be offered to students who are tardy and missed breakfast. The crackers and cookies, beef sticks, and trail mix can be shared with students who need an afternoon snack to make it through the day. Soups and warm foods can be eaten by students before they head home if they won’t be having dinner. Some students know the only meals they get are at school and worry or fret over going home, especially on weekends and breaks. Last year I began the year with a pantry full of snacks thanks to the donors here. It was depleted by winter break. Students often have basic needs that interfere with learning and we have no way to help. With your continued faith in my classroom, we can overcome students hunger. Every item in this project is food my students can eat when necessary and I believe that it will be such a huge help for my students.
