My students are Special Education Kindergarten - Second Grade students who attend a suburban Title I school. These students have a wide variety of physical and/or cognitive disabilities. Despite all of these challenges, they still come to school with smiles on their faces, full of questions, and ready to learn. Each day they inspire me and everyone they come in contact with to be the best they can be!
I am lucky each and every day to be their teacher and hope to inspire them with new activities and experiences so they can be the best they can be.
These students love to inquire, learn from their friends, and learn in the most comfortable environment for them. In order for all students to be successful: we vary learning strategies, incorporate group work, complete different hands-on projects and make sure ALL of their needs are met. They are an incredible group and each year I consider myself to be so lucky to have the opportunity to watch them grow over the year.
My Project
My Special Education Students are highly motivated by the use of technology, but currently during our intervention time, one student cannot use an iPad because we don't have enough! The students all have data tracking programs on the iPads for Math and Reading, but often each day 1 student has to be left out because of our ratios. This causes a major disruption during our Intervention Time, that could easily be avoided with the addition of one more iPad.
Providing one more iPad will allow these students to gain independence while working on skills they are behind on all at once.
Having all students included builds a positive environment with few disruptions because all students are working hard at the same time, on a similar device. Little do they know it is completely scaffold-ed time, which means students work at their ability level, but don't feel left out.
