My students need a portable CD/Tape player with wireless headphones. They would benefit from a organizational stand with activities for the center also.
Children are now being challenged to be readers by the end of kindergarten. In order for children to become confident readers they need to be engrossed in many forms of literature in many different formats.
I teach 44 amazing kindergarten children every year.
Their love of books is a major necessity for becoming readers. They are fully engaged during whole group reading time. They love hearing new books and being transformed to new places and experience new things through books.
My Project
The use of a portable CD and tape player would be amazing in my classroom. These devices are small enough and simplistic enough to be completely manageable by the children at their own tables. This offers them the independence that they crave during this crucial year. The wireless headphones would allow for the movement that children often need. The organizational storage unit would make this center easier to move from table to table. The books and games would be a great start to my listening library.
It is extremely important to provide as many reading opportunities as possible during a child's early years.
I practice whole group reading experiences daily and encourage my parents to read to their children daily on a one on one level. Allowing the children to take part in small group reading would give the children one more opportunity to gain the essential love of reading.
