Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are incredible thinkers, makers, learners, and doers. They're also pretty fun to be around. Their beginning-of-year interest and personality inventories revealed they see themselves as many different things--friends, sisters and brothers, caretakers, athletes, writers, immigrants, explorers--and they are. They're also very reflective; they're able to identify their personal strengths and challenges and then create a plan to turn challenges into growth opportunities.
My students come from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, but they are the living embodiment of respect and appreciation.
It's incredible to watch them interact with students new to the class, school, and even our country. Everyone recognizes they have a role to play in our collective success, and everyone steps up and does their part.
My Project
Each year in my class, students study various human rights movements and learn about becoming ethical people. One of the ways we put that into practice is by doing some sort of holiday treat for students and teachers in our school.
These items will allow my students to spend time during the holiday season focusing on giving rather than receiving.
We will use these supplies to help us make winter treats for every student, staff member, and volunteer in our building. Students will use the hot chocolate mix, mini marshmallows, and mini candy canes to put together "Snowman Soup" gifts.
