I teach a variety of 7th and 8th students, and their background ranges from high to low-income and from Special Education to Gifted and Talented. Many of our students live in high-density residential housing and have little or no experience or opportunity to interact with their imagination.
Students have asked for a Non-Screen Role-Playing Game Club to start at our school.
They want to use their imagination and practice their improvisational acting skills. We are hoping to use this to teach history, statistics and how to perform research.
My Project
The materials will be used to help my students access their imaginations, by allowing them to explore teacher and student-created fantasy realms. It will help to encourage them to learn how to do historical research. The materials will enable them to practice face to face communication skills in a non-digital reality. It will promote working in teams and solve a variety of problems and challenges. It will give them exposure to medieval history, and how to use statistics to make decisions. It will help promote non-academic literacy. Lastly, it will help them to learn to think on their feet, by improving their improvisational skills.
