Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
They are absolutely the most amazing and tenacious kids. They fight and overcome any and every obstacle that is in their way to achieve their goals!
My students come from a low-socioeconomic area and therefore have limited access to books.
Our school also does not have a library. Therefore, the books that my students read are the ones that I have paid for out of my pocket. They deserve a plethora of books that provide a wide range of diversity and multiculturalism.
My Project
Currently, our school does not have a library. Teachers are expected and have to buy their own books for their classroom libraries. I have spent almost a thousand dollars over the last year to ensure my kids have books to read. However, they consume everything I give them!
This year alone, I have had kids go up 6-8 reading levels, and therefore, I need to add books to my library.
I also would like to increase the diversity of the library so that my kids will benefit from more representation. I have selected books that I know my kids love and have requested that I get for them.
